Product Description
Overview
The ECWCS system, more precisely the Extended Cold Weather Clothing System, is a clothing system specially designed to provide the user with protection against low temperatures. This standard was invented in 1980 by the United States Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Natick, Massachusetts. There are 3 generations of such clothing systems developed over the years based on needs.
Description
The Helikon-Tex ECWCS Gen.2 jacket is part of the Generation 2 ECWCS clothing system. It is made from various types of synthetic materials that provide protection against moisture and the ability to retain heat. The waterproof capability is measured at 10000mm water column, while the materials used also allow for efficient ventilation for the user with a capacity of 5000g/m2/24h.
Functionality
As a military uniform, the jacket is equipped with many useful pockets. Specifically, there are two interior pockets in the chest area, four hand pockets at the bottom with side and top access, and two arm pockets.
The elbow area features a reinforced section, very useful against wear. There are hook-and-loop sections on the chest and arms for attaching badges or patches. The waist size can be adjusted. Additionally, there is a section inside the waist designed to retain warm air generated by the body while preventing cold air from the outside or other elements that may lower the internal temperature.
To prevent excessive heat accumulation, the jacket is equipped with zippered ventilation openings in the underarm area. To provide complete protection, the jacket comes with a hood. The hood can be packed into the collar to save space. The sleeves are adjustable, contributing to internal heat retention as well as better maneuverability of the arms.
The zippers used are made by YKK, recognized as some of the most durable zippers on the market.
