Initially designed for the Italian army and law enforcement, to replace the M951 model. It went into production in 1976 starting with its use in Italy and gradually expanded worldwide. The U.S. Army adopted the Beretta M92 SB-F, later named M92F due to its excellent performance in the XM9 testing, aimed at selecting the most reliable handgun. Over time, the Beretta M92 underwent various modifications to its mechanisms and shape to meet requirements.
