WARNING:
- Nickel-Metal-Hybrid (NiMH) batteries can be dangerous.
- The user must take all precautions for: potential fire, bodily harm, and damage to property.
- If improperly used, damaged, or defective, NiMH batteries can catch fire, generate smoke, and cause poisoning.
- By purchasing this type of battery, the user assumes responsibility for any risks associated with NiMH batteries.
- NiMH batteries are not toys, so they should not be left within reach of children as they can pose a real danger to their health.
- NiMH batteries should not be thrown into fire, placed in an oven or microwave as they can explode.
- NiMH batteries contain harmful chemicals.
- Do not attempt to charge mechanically or chemically damaged batteries.
Actions Leading to Battery Damage
- Connecting in series or parallel with another cell or battery even if they appear similar.
- Exceeding maximum and minimum operating voltages.
- A drop or rise in temperature outside the permitted limits.
- Charging current that is too high.
- Using a charger without battery detection.
- Short-circuiting the battery terminals.
- Subjecting the battery to mechanical shocks such as: dropping, hitting, bending, cutting, twisting, deforming, or puncturing.
- Contact with liquids.
- Improvising an improper charging setup.
- Using inappropriate, improvised charging cables.
General Information
- NiMH battery packs are composed of cells.
- Each NiMH battery has a power connector that in most cases will also be used for charging it.
- It is recommended to charge batteries with chargers that have automatic shut-off when charging is complete.
- The charging current should not exceed 50% of the total capacity of the battery.
- Depending on the number of cells, the nominal voltage of the battery is given. Example: 7 cells = 8.4V, 8 cells = 9.6V.
- Each cell has a maximum voltage of 1.4V that should not be exceeded during charging and a minimum voltage that should not drop below 0.84V.
- It is recommended to charge NiMH batteries with the lowest possible current.
- It is recommended to maintain the charge-discharge cycles as accurately as possible.
